About of “Journal of Japan Foundry Engineering Society”
In the aim to promote technologies and academia related to foundry engineering, build the foundation for manufacturing in Japan and around the world, and contribute to the progress and development of the industry as a whole, 92 volumes of academic and technological achievements related to casting in Japan have been published since the first volume in 1929 through research activities and technological interchanges jointly promoted by industry, academia, and government.
Research fields covered include iron castings (flake/spheroidal graphite cast iron, alloy cast iron, steel), nonferrous castings (aluminum alloys, copper alloy, magnesium alloys, metal-based composite materials, other alloys), die casting methods and mold castings, other manufacturing technologies, various simulation technologies, robotics and automation technologies, additive manufacturing for pattern, sand mold or metal parts, energy saving and environmental protection, and research results related to foundry engineering are published.

Ethical Standards Regarding Paper Submission and Review,
and Publication of Journal
1. Purpose
The ethical obligations to be observed in the submission and review of papers, and publication of the Japan Foundry Engineering Society journal are prescribed in this Ethical Standards of the Japan Foundry Engineering Society.
This Ethical Standards provides the ethical standards required at the least for the submission and review of papers and the publication of the Society’s journal in order to ensure the integrity of research when submitting, peer-reviewing, and publishing research results, and to ensure the credibility of results reported within and outside the Society.
2. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
- Requirements for paper submission
Papers submitted must meet the terms and conditions indicated in the submission rules and writing guidelines of the “Journal of JFS”, and must comply with this Ethical Standards. - Authors
Authors are all those who made substantial contributions to the completion of the paper, and are limited to those who share responsibility for the contents of the paper. In addition, the disclosure of the paper must be consented to by all the authors.
- Duplicate submission
Research papers, technical papers, research and technical bulletins are limited to those that have not been presented in other academic journals or publications as well as have not been submitted to other publications. Submission includes the entire process from acceptance to publication of a paper.
- Violation of publication ethics
Submitted papers must not contain the following fabricated, falsified or plagiarized information.
Fabrication means to describe results that are not based on experiments, etc., falsification means to intentionally modify or delete part of the results, and plagiarism means to submit the same content as reports already published by others.
- Cautions on citations
When citing information from others, attention must be paid to their copyrights. In the event the contents of a paper violate the copyright of another party, the author(s) will be held responsible.
3. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Roles of reviewers
Reviewers play an extremely crucial role in deciding whether or not to publish a paper, and their duties and responsibilities are enormous. Reviews must be conducted fairly and promptly based on paper review standards.
- Declining reviews
Reviewers must immediately notify the Editorial Committee and decline to review a paper if they think that they are not qualified to make fair judgments or if they find that they will not be able to complete the review within the deadline. Moreover, reviewers must decline to review a paper in the case of a conflict of interest with the authors or the paper, and refrain from reviewing the paper.
- Ensuring the objectivity of reviews
Reviews must be objective and ethical in terms of novelty, significance and credibility, and avoid subjective and illogical judgments based on personal views or feelings of like or dislike for the concerned author or paper.
- Confidentiality
Reviewers must not reveal the fact that they have been requested to do a review, nor the contents of the paper they are reviewing in whole or in part.
- Prohibition of personal use by reviewers
Reviewers must not use the contents of the paper they are reviewing for their own benefits until the paper has been published.
- Reporting to Editorial Committee
Reviewers must promptly report to the Editorial Committee if they find that the contents of a paper are violating this Ethical Standards by being the same as a paper that has already been published, or by containing fabricated, falsified, or plagiarized data.
- Reporting review results
Reviewers must describe their judgments logically in a way that can be understood by the Editorial Committee and the author(s).
4. Duties and Responsibilities of Editorial Committee
- Fair management by Editorial Committee
The Editorial Committee must observe this Ethical Standards and review submitted papers fairly and promptly, and maintain the standard of the journal.
The Editorial Committee must review submitted papers and judge their value from a scientific and professional perspective without prejudice, regardless of the author’s gender, age, affiliation, etc.
The Editorial Committee is responsible for accepting or rejecting papers based on reports from reviewers.
Editorial Committee members cannot participate in the review of papers they wrote or cowrote.
In the event errors are found in the contents of an already published paper, references cited, etc., the Editorial Committee must take appropriate measures such as notifying the author and publishing an errata.
- Selection of reviewers
The Editorial Committee must select reviewers fairly. Interested parties of the concerned paper should not be selected as reviewers.
- Confidentiality
The Editorial Committee must not reveal matters related to reviews to others.
- Responding to reports of violation of publication ethics
In the event suspicions of duplicate submission, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or any other violations of this Ethical Standards are reported, they will be investigated by the Editorial Committee. Fraudulent acts and ethical violations will be dealt with appropriately regardless of the degree, such as withdrawal of the paper, posting a statement regarding the fraudulent act, banning future submissions or reviews for submission to the Journal of JFS, etc.
5. Responsibilities of Editorial Committee Secretariat
- Confidentiality
The Editorial Committee Secretariat must treat as confidential and not reveal the contents, reviewers, and reviewed results of papers that it learned in the process from submission to publication.
Copyright Regulations of the Japan Foundry Engineering Society
Purpose
Article 1.
These Regulations provide basic information on the handling of the copyrights (copyrights related to works posted to or published by the Japan Foundry Engineering Society (hereinafter called “the “Society”) of members and contributors (hereinafter called “author”) in order to operate them fairly and appropriately.
Definition
Article 2.
In these Regulations, the terms listed in the following issues shall have the significance specified in each of them.
(1)Copyrighted works of this society
Those prescribed in Article 2, paragraph 1, item 1 of the Copyright Act and falling under the following.
・Articles published in the journal “鋳造工学” (J. JFS) and the joint publication journal “Materials Transactions”
・Articles on reports of JFS Meetings held in spring and autumn
・Articles published in working group reports
・Articles posted in the text of technical workshops
・Articles posted on seminars and symposium texts
・Articles published on the Website of the Society
・Other articles published in the publications of the Society
(2)Author : As prescribed in Article 2, paragraph 1, item 2 of the Copyright Act.
(3)Work : Of the provisions of Article 2, paragraph 1 of the Copyright Act, it is a creative expression of thought and belongs to the academic scope.
(4)Copyrights : All rights provided for in Article 21 (Right of Reproduction), Article 22 (Stage Performance Rights and Musical Performance Rights), Article 22-2 (Right of On-Screen Presentation), Article 23 (Right to Transmit to the Public), Article 24 (Recitation Rights), Article 25 (Exhibition Rights), Article 26 (Distribution Rights) Article 26-2 (Right of Transfer), Article 26-3 (Right to Rent Out), Article 27 (Translation Rights, Adaptation Rights, and Other Rights) and Article 28 (Rights of the Original Author in Connection with the Exploitation of a Derivative Work) of the Copyright Act.
(5) Moral rights of author : All rights provided for in Article 18 (Right to Make a Work Public), Article 19 (Right of Attribution) and Article 20 (Right to Integrity) of the Copyright Act.
Copyrights and copyrighted works
Article 3.
1.The copyrights under these Regulations shall be the property rights set forth in paragraph 4 of the previous article.
2.The copyrighted works under these Regulations shall be as follows:
(1) All documents, including papers and articles set forth in paragraph 1 of the previous article
Transfer of copyright
Article 4.
1. Authors shall entrust the exercise of copyright to works published in the journal of the Society and other publications.
(1)Authors of papers, etc. shall entrust the exercise of copyrights such as papers to the Society.
(2)Those who wish to use papers in the form of copies, reprints, translations, etc. shall obtain the prior permission of the Society.
(3)Authors of papers, etc. may copy their papers for their own use without distribution.
(4)Authors, etc. wishing to publish their own papers in another publication for academic purposes must obtain the permission of the Society in advance.
2.Authors wishing to publish their works in journals, etc. without entrusting the rights of their properties for a justifiable reason shall obtain the approval of the editor-in-chief in advance.
Copyright attribution
Article 5.
1. Article 4 allows those wishing to use a work whose copyright has been entrusted to the Society by the author to request permission for use from the Society. For the author of the work, this will enable the work to be used widely while protecting the copyrights of the author legally.
2. If a work whose copyright has been entrusted to the Society by the author is not published as a result of peer review, or if the author withdraws his/her wish to publish it, and the work is not published in the journal, etc., the copyright entrusted to this Society shall be returned to the author.
Exercise of copyright
Article 6.
1. The Society may exercise the copyrights of works entrusted to the Society by authors under Article 5.
2.Using the copyrights entrusted to the Society, the Society can create derivative works using electronic media, make the created derivative 3.works into aggregates by creation, and create works that give new functions such as search.
Using the copyrights entrusted to the Society, the Society can reproduce past publications in electronic and paper media, make the created reproductions into aggregates by creation, and create works that give new functions such as search.
4.In addition, the Society may use the entrusted copyrights to use works within the scope of the copyrights.
Non-exercise of moral rights of author
Article 7.
1. Authors shall not exercise their moral rights against the Society or any third party against which the Society has granted permission to use works.
2.The provisions of the preceding paragraph apply even if the Society and third parties granted permission to use works create derivative works using the works as original works.
Author’s use permission
Article 8.
1. The “Guidelines for Use of Copyrighted Works ” stipulated separately apply for authors using all or part of works in other publications, etc. In addition, the Society can also entrust the operation of the right to grant permission to an external organization.
2.In the preceding paragraph, permission may not be granted to authors using copyright for commercial purposes or multiple posting purposes, or if the use violates the public interest purpose of the Society or interests of business for public interest purpose.
3.The Society may not allow authors to use works for commercial purpose or reprint all works.
Entrustment to third parties
Article 9.
1.Third parties wishing to use all or part of other publications, etc. shall request permission from the Society according to the “Guidelines for Use of Copyrighted Works ” stipulated separately. The Society may respond to justifiable requests. In addition, the Society can also entrust the operation of the right to grant permission to an external organization.
2.In the preceding paragraph, permission shall not be granted if the use violates the public interest purpose of the Society or interests of business for public interest purpose.
3.In paragraph 1, permission may be granted to authors using copyright for commercial purposes if the use is inappropriate, provided that there is a justifiable reason.
4.Permission may be granted when institutions that are not subscribing to the relevant journal or an author belonging to that institution request that works of the author be listed in the institution’s repository, etc. .
5.Permission may be granted when institutions that are not subscribing to the relevant journal or an author belonging to that institution request that works be listed in the institution’s repository, etc. provided that there is a justifiable reason.
Consignment to third parties
Article 10.
1. The Society may use entrusted copyrights and grant external organizations the right to translate and publish works.
2.The fair compensation obtained by the permission set forth in the preceding paragraph can be partially returned to the author and must be used for expenses of the applicable public interest business of the Society.
Guarantee by author, etc.
Article 11.
1.The author shall guarantee the following about works.
(1) Works are not violating copyrights, patent rights, utility model rights, design rights, trademark rights, and other intellectual property rights of third parties, as well as intellectual property rights such as rights related to these applications or registrations, or any other rights, (2) Works are not multiple submission, or have never been published in the past, except cases where the contents published in the journals of the Society are to be posted to other books of the Society, and (3)For joint work, the consent of all other creators of the joint work must be obtained when posting to the Society. In addition, authors shall specify the source when quoting the work of a third party in the work.
Prohibition of multiple transfers
Article 12.
Authors shall not transfer any copyrights of works (including the right of publication) or permit use to third parties other than the Society.
Responsibilities of the author
Article 13.
1.Authors shall deal responsibly with any doubts about the contents of their works published through the regular peer review of the journal of the Society.
2.Authors shall deal responsibly with any copyrighted work they are responsible for in the case of multiple postings, copyright infringement, defamation or other disputes.
3.In the previous paragraph 2, author shall be liable to compensate for any damages caused to the Society.
4.The reduction of the responsibility of authors set forth in the preceding paragraph shall be resolved by the Board of Directors of the Society.
Exceptions
Article 14.
1.For works related to collaborative projects with another associations, any regulations prescribed for them shall take precedence over these Regulations.
2.In the preceding paragraph, in the event of a doubt, the parties concerned shall consult and respond.
Copyright Dispute resolution
Article 15.
1.Authors must mainly deal with disputes for which they are responsible as provided for in Article 9, and the Society must mainly deal with disputes for which it is responsible.
2.In the preceding paragraph, the author and the Society may cooperate with each other after consultation.
Involvement of Editorial Committee
Article 16.
If any doubts arise as a result of these regulations, they shall be discussed by the Editorial Committee of the Society.
Revision and abolition of regulations
Article 17.
In the case of revision or abolition of these regulations, the resolution of the Editorial Committee of the Society is required.
Guidelines for Use of Copyrighted Works in Journal of Japan Foundry Engineering Society
Guidelines for Use of Copyrighted Works
Authors and non-authors do not need permission for “permitted uses” in Limitations of Copyright (Articles 30 to 50)in the Copyright Act of Japan.The “permitted uses” above mean reproduction for private use, citations within the legitimate scope, reproduction at educational institutions, etc.for non-commercial purposes.
Authors do not need to obtain permission to use their own works for patent applications and for exercising their own rights.
In the case of commercial use , the Editorial Committee will deliberate and decide permission to use. For uses involving the modification of the copyrighted work, the Editorial Committee will deliberate and decide permission to use.
1.Use of own work by authors
1-1 Authors do not need permission to use their own work for non-commercial purposes such as (1) to (9) below. The source must be clearly stated in use and modifications are not permitted.
(1)Academic journals (including online journals)
(2)Research reports (Activity reports of academic associations, corporate technical reports, university minutes, doctoral dissertations, bachelor thesis)
(3)Proceedings and abstracts of international conferences
(4)Textbooks and slides for workshops, etc. (those organized by associations or public organizations)
(5)Catalogs and brochures (research introductions, researcher profiles, etc. distributed at non-profit meetings)
(6)Books (Books priced equivalent to actual costs and those published by academic societies or public institutions)
(7)Website and web data (Institutional repositories ,introduction of research activities and data that are free of charge to use)
(8)Full or partial reprint in the author’s own dissertation (including figures and tables)
(9)Posting on author’s department website or institutional repositories
1-2 Permission is required by authors using their work beyond the scope of citations for commercial purposes.
2.Uses of work by those other than authors
2-1 Permission is required for uses of work by those other than authors in the following (a) to (c) including (1) to (9) above, whether for commercial purposes or not. The source must be clearly stated in use and modifications are not permitted.
(a) Use exceeding the scope of citation (including reprinting, reproduction, transmission to the public, creation of secondary information, etc.)
(b) Reprint of work fully or partially in books or articles of other journals (including text, figures and tables)
(c) Posting on author’s department website or institutional repositories
