About of “Journal of Japan Foundry Engineering Society”
In the aim to promote technologies and academia related to foundry engineering, build the foundation for manufacturing in Japan and around the world, and contribute to the progress and development of the industry as a whole, 92 volumes of academic and technological achievements related to casting in Japan have been published since the first volume in 1929 through research activities and technological interchanges jointly promoted by industry, academia, and government.
Research fields covered include iron castings (flake/spheroidal graphite cast iron, alloy cast iron, steel), nonferrous castings (aluminum alloys, copper alloy, magnesium alloys, metal-based composite materials, other alloys), die casting methods and mold castings, other manufacturing technologies, various simulation technologies, robotics and automation technologies, additive manufacturing for pattern, sand mold or metal parts, energy saving and environmental protection, and research results related to foundry engineering are published.

Ethical Standards Regarding Paper Submission and Review,
and Publication of Journal
1. Purpose
The ethical obligations to be observed in the submission and review of papers, and publication of the Japan Foundry Engineering Society journal are prescribed in this Ethical Standards of the Japan Foundry Engineering Society.
This Ethical Standards provides the ethical standards required at the least for the submission and review of papers and the publication of the Society’s journal in order to ensure the integrity of research when submitting, peer-reviewing, and publishing research results, and to ensure the credibility of results reported within and outside the Society.
2. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
- Requirements for paper submission
Papers submitted must meet the terms and conditions indicated in the submission rules and writing guidelines of the “Journal of JFS”, and must comply with this Ethical Standards. - Authors
Authors are all those who made substantial contributions to the completion of the paper, and are limited to those who share responsibility for the contents of the paper. In addition, the disclosure of the paper must be consented to by all the authors.
- Duplicate submission
Research papers, technical papers, research and technical bulletins are limited to those that have not been presented in other academic journals or publications as well as have not been submitted to other publications. Submission includes the entire process from acceptance to publication of a paper.
- Violation of publication ethics
Submitted papers must not contain the following fabricated, falsified or plagiarized information.
Fabrication means to describe results that are not based on experiments, etc., falsification means to intentionally modify or delete part of the results, and plagiarism means to submit the same content as reports already published by others.
- Cautions on citations
When citing information from others, attention must be paid to their copyrights. In the event the contents of a paper violate the copyright of another party, the author(s) will be held responsible.
3. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Roles of reviewers
Reviewers play an extremely crucial role in deciding whether or not to publish a paper, and their duties and responsibilities are enormous. Reviews must be conducted fairly and promptly based on paper review standards.
- Declining reviews
Reviewers must immediately notify the Editorial Committee and decline to review a paper if they think that they are not qualified to make fair judgments or if they find that they will not be able to complete the review within the deadline. Moreover, reviewers must decline to review a paper in the case of a conflict of interest with the authors or the paper, and refrain from reviewing the paper.
- Ensuring the objectivity of reviews
Reviews must be objective and ethical in terms of novelty, significance and credibility, and avoid subjective and illogical judgments based on personal views or feelings of like or dislike for the concerned author or paper.
- Confidentiality
Reviewers must not reveal the fact that they have been requested to do a review, nor the contents of the paper they are reviewing in whole or in part.
- Prohibition of personal use by reviewers
Reviewers must not use the contents of the paper they are reviewing for their own benefits until the paper has been published.
- Reporting to Editorial Committee
Reviewers must promptly report to the Editorial Committee if they find that the contents of a paper are violating this Ethical Standards by being the same as a paper that has already been published, or by containing fabricated, falsified, or plagiarized data.
- Reporting review results
Reviewers must describe their judgments logically in a way that can be understood by the Editorial Committee and the author(s).
4. Duties and Responsibilities of Editorial Committee
- Fair management by Editorial Committee
The Editorial Committee must observe this Ethical Standards and review submitted papers fairly and promptly, and maintain the standard of the journal.
The Editorial Committee must review submitted papers and judge their value from a scientific and professional perspective without prejudice, regardless of the author’s gender, age, affiliation, etc.
The Editorial Committee is responsible for accepting or rejecting papers based on reports from reviewers.
Editorial Committee members cannot participate in the review of papers they wrote or cowrote.
In the event errors are found in the contents of an already published paper, references cited, etc., the Editorial Committee must take appropriate measures such as notifying the author and publishing an errata.
- Selection of reviewers
The Editorial Committee must select reviewers fairly. Interested parties of the concerned paper should not be selected as reviewers.
- Confidentiality
The Editorial Committee must not reveal matters related to reviews to others.
- Responding to reports of violation of publication ethics
In the event suspicions of duplicate submission, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or any other violations of this Ethical Standards are reported, they will be investigated by the Editorial Committee. Fraudulent acts and ethical violations will be dealt with appropriately regardless of the degree, such as withdrawal of the paper, posting a statement regarding the fraudulent act, banning future submissions or reviews for submission to the Journal of JFS, etc.
5. Responsibilities of Editorial Committee Secretariat
- Confidentiality
The Editorial Committee Secretariat must treat as confidential and not reveal the contents, reviewers, and reviewed results of papers that it learned in the process from submission to publication.
